Petition in Support of the Submission to the Federal Trade Commission

Text of the Petition

[ The full submission is available here.]

Edicts of Government, the official pronouncement of the law and legal materials, are the raw materials of our democracy. In the current environment, edicts of government are hidden behind paywalls, subject to onerous terms of use and extortionate pricing, and are festooned with inappropriate assertions of copyright. We, the undersigned, do hereby urge the Federal Trade Commission to investigate violations of principles of fair competition and the deception and unfair practices that hurt consumers.

Under the rule of law, edicts of government in the United States belong to the people, who may freely read and speak to inform themselves, and their fellow citizens, of their rights and obligations.
