This standard includes safety requirements within the meaning of the Gerate- und Produktsicherheitsgesetz (GPSG) (German Equipment and Consumer Goods Safety Law).

This standard including Amendment 1:2008 to ISO 9994:2005 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics" (Secretariat: ANSI, USA) in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/SS H22 "Smokers' lighters" (Secretariat: CMC).

The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Eisen-, Blech- und Metal/waren (Hardware, Tinware and Metal Products Standards Committee), Technical Committee NA 020-00-09 AA Feuerzeuge.
