This standard includes safety requirements within the meaning of the Geräte- und Produktsicherheitsgesetz (German Equipment and Consumer Goods Safety Law).

This standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets" (Secretariat: DIN, Germany).

This standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 136 'Sports, playground and other recreational equipment'. The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Sport- und Freizeitgerät (Sports Equipment Standards Committee), Technical Committee Tauch-Zubehör.

Depth gauges and combined depth and time measuring devices as specified in this standard fall within the scope of the Gerätesicherheitsgesetz. Once compliance with the safety requirements specified therein has been verified by an accredited test house designated by the Bundesminister für Arbeit und Sozialordnung (German Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs), the depth gauges and time measuring device may be marked with the symbol GS (= geprüfte Sicherheit, safety tested).

DIN 8308 is the standard corresponding to International Standard ISO 1413 referred to in clause 2 of the EN.
